Abnormal Pap Results
get the explanations you deserve
You get the phone call or the letter
and you are distressed to hear that you have an abnormal pap
smear. At this point you deserve a quick follow-up appointment
and an explanation that make sense to you.
If you recently were told that your pap results were abnormal, you need to understand what is going on.
You need to understand what a positive
HPV test means. Was it low risk HPV or high risk HPV?
Is HPV a sexually transmitted infection? When did I get it?

Repeat Pap Smears
Were the cervical or vaginal cells
abnormal, atypical, atrophic? Was there a Low
Grade Squamous Intraepithelial lesion? A High Grade
Lesion? Or just atypical cells and a negative HPV.
This is understandably confusing.
Very confusing. Physicians who do pap smears may not have
all the answers you have unless they are gynecologists.
Some primary care physicians will refer you to a gynecologist to
manage the abnormal test result.
Are you going to have a repeat pap
smear? If so...when?
Perhaps you were told you need a
COLPOSCOPY and possible CERVICAL BIOPSY and ENDOCERVICAL
CURETTAGE. Do you know what that is? How will you
prepare for this procedure.
Perhaps you already had a Colposcopy
and Biopsy and now you have a diagnosis of CIN 1,2 or 3.
Are you planning a LEEP procedure? Is your physician
equipped to do this in the office?
The Truth Is...
- You deserve to
understand what your results mean
- You need to get
the right follow up tests
- You need to
learn what else you can do to help your body stay healthy
- You deserve a
doctor who will care enough to help you through this scary
and confusing time
Are you beginning to see that there really might be a better way? You are probably wondering why all physicians don't practice this way.
